I am a violinistviolin teacher, and piano accompanist, based in Cosham, Portsmouth, Hampshire, U.K.

This page contains a brief overview of the services I provide, with links to further information elsewhere in the site.

1. Violin/ensemble music for special occasions.

I provide music for dinners, weddings, funerals, corporate and private functions, - in fact, most types of events. I mostly play solo violin (either unaccompanied or with my own pre-recorded piano accompaniments), but can provide other ensembles which include violin - duo, string trio, palm court trio. I aim to tailor the musical selection to the event, responding to individual requests where possible. Regarding the location: I am willing to travel beyond Portsmouth to all parts of Hampshire, Sussex, Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, South Oxfordshire, Surrey, Kent and London. Find out more ...

2. Piano accompaniment

I am a sympathetic piano accompanist, with many years experience in providing accompaniment for students' exams, auditions and competitions - not only for string players, but also for woodwind, brass and percussion. For practical reasons, my piano accompanying activities are restricted to the Cosham / Portsmouth / South Hampshire areas. However, on occasion I have agreed to travel as far as London to accompany auditions or diploma exams. Find out more ...

Violin tuition

I teach a wide range of abilities and ages (between five and seventy-five!), and aim to accommodate any special needs pupils may have, such as dyslexia, for instance. I believe in educating the whole musician - rather than simply teaching the mastery of violin technique. Tuition takes place at my home in Cosham, Portsmouth, Hampshire, U.K. Find out more ...

Resumé in brief

It was fortunate for me that my flare for playing the violin was 'spotted' during a school concert by the composer, Gordon Jacob. This led to me studying with John White and subsequently with David Martin who then became my professor at the Royal Academy of Music, where I gained the RAM's highest award for violin performance, the Recital diploma. I also studied piano at the RAM with Eric Hope and Hamish Milne.

Since then, my journey through life has taken me to a number of fascinating places, diverse in the extreme, working alongside many wonderful people. I have been provided with opportunities to gain a wide variety of musical experiences, both in the U.K. and abroad. Find out more ...

In addition to the violin playing, teaching and piano accompaniment listed above, I now teach at Westhill Park School, Titchfield, and Boundary Oak School, Fareham. I also play for a number of orchestras and chamber music groups in the southern counties. My travels take me to all parts of Hampshire, Sussex, Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, South Oxfordshire, Surrey, Kent and London.
